About us
Good Neighbours was born during lockdown. The most vulnerable and isolated in our communities needed our help, and Community Action rallied over 2000 volunteers to help those in need.
Our amazing volunteers supported so many people who needed help with basic necessities like shopping and general befriending, and they made a massive difference to people’s lives.
The scheme helps people overcome isolation, and by supporting people in their homes, it can prevent people from returning to hospital or social care.
As people returned to work after lockdown the number of volunteers declined, yet the demand for support is ever-increasing, so we need your help more than ever!
Even an hour a week can make a difference!
Frequently Asked Questions
I only have a certain amount of time, on certain days, can I still volunteer?
As much or as little time as you’re able to volunteer- we’d still like to hear from you.
I already help people, why do we need Good Neighbours?
Great! We're not trying to step on anyone's toes. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to have a ‘good neighbour’, someone they can turn to for support or help with one-off tasks. This is where Good Neighbours fits in!
How can I self refer?
Unfortunately we are unable to take self referrals currently.
But you can be referred in by any health professional.
What will I get out of volunteering?
Good Neighbour Schemes are a great way of getting involved in volunteering and helping your local community - you can be flexible with how many hours you can give and your help will always make a difference.
Do I need to drive?
Not necessarily, but it would be helpful for some of the roles.
Is there anything a Good Neighbours Scheme won't do?
Good Neighbour Schemes do not offer specialist or personal care or play any role that should be left to a professional, qualified or formal support services. Nor should volunteers carry out tasks that are appropriate for suitably qualified tradespeople. Schemes have the autonomy to decide what services they can offer depending on the availability and skill set of their volunteers.
